ABOUT
Jon is a Colorado native with an adventurous taste for life. His passion for the outdoors and athletics developed at a very young age. He competed at both team and individual sports throughout his youth. Shortly after graduating from high school, Jon joined the United States Navy and became a Hospital Corpsman and Combat Rescue Swimmer. He left the Navy in 1992 as an Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm veteran.
With his military background and personal experience as a competitive triathlete, Jon decided to share his passion for fitness. He started working at Genesis Fitness in 2006 as a bootcamp instructor. In 2008 he earned the title of Instructor of the Year, in 2009 became Genesis Fitness Lead Instructor, and was featured in Denver’s Best of Westword magazine. In 2010, Jon started Rogue Fitness in collaboration with two friends.
Jon looks up to people who are passionate about what they do and have the courage to make positive changes in their lives. When it comes to Jon's fitness philosophy, it is inspired by those of Laird Hamilton, American big-wave surfer and co-inventor of tow-in surfing, and Yvon Chouinard, founder and owner of Pantagonia: “they embrace the environment in which they live as a playground and are inspired by it.”
Jon believes that fitness should NOT be a chore; it should be fun, challenging, rewarding and something you enjoy doing. He is an advocate of never sacrificing form over speed… functional training over isolation training… and believes that nutrition is 99% of the battle – food is fuel and should be enjoyed.
With his extensive knowledge of the human body, his creative approach to fitness, and his personal experiences as an athlete, Jon can work with elite athletes or people trying fitness for the first time. He finds reward in watching his students get stronger physically, becoming more comfortable in their own skin and observing how fitness and a healthy lifestyle positively impact other areas of their lives.
"To find your passion, you have to look inward. If you look outward, all you’ll see is what other people are doing. You’re not other people." - Laird Hamilton
